On the day of the 150th anniversary of Antonin Dvorak's birth and in the year of the bicentenary of Mozart's death, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra dedicated a concert to both composers in the magnificent Spanish Hall of Prague Castle.

Recognized as one of greatest pianists of our lime, Ivan Moravec's performances and recordings have prompted critics in search of parallels to call up such names as Gieseking and Richter. Yet his musicianship, while it challenges comparison with these masters, is riveting and penetratingly individual in style. As one of the world's most acclaimed recitalists, Mr. Moravec has appeared at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Centei and on the major recital series in Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Cleveland and Philadelphia. In Europe, Mr. Moravec is regularly welcomed as a recital and concerto soloist in the major music capitals and has also toured several times in Australia and Japan.

Bernarda Fink was born to Slovenian parents in Argentina, where she received her vocal and musical education. In 1985 she won the First Prize at the Nuevas Voces Liricas competition and moved to Europe where she has since bo lit a remarkable career by singing with such orchestras as the Vienna, London and Czech Philharmonics, the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, the Orchestre National de France, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the English Baroque Soloists, the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, and others. Ms. Fink has also performed to great acclaim in European opera houses, including Prague, Montpellier, and Salzburg, and given recitals around the world.

Dvorak wrote his cycle of Biblical Songs in just three weeks in 1894 during his stay in America. Based on texts of the psalms, they were composed at a point of spiritual crisis, following news of the terminal illness of Dvorak's father and the death of his dear friends Tchaikovsky arid Von Billow.
