Russia, 1917, World War I. This is the story of the 1st Russian Women’s Battalion, called Death Battalion. It was formed as part of an ill-conceived propaganda ploy by the Russian Provisional Government in late May of 1917.

Director Dmitry Meskhiyev was born on October 31, 1963 in Leningrad, USSR. He is a producer and director, known for Ours (Svoi) (2004), Train arrival (Pribytie poezda) (1995) and A man by the window (Chelovek u okna) (2010).

Director's statement: I am very grateful for the opportunity to direct this film. My goal was challenging and unique – I had to cope with 12 main characters of the film, as well as with numerous actors in the crowd scenes. Almost every episode involved more than 150 people. I’m really looking forward to the very moment when the film will be ready to be presented to the viewers. I found this story very interesting to work with, since we have so many films about the Great Patriotic War, but almost nothing about the First World War. That is why we had to develop our own approach to this story.
