Young basso Orlin Anastassov comes from the town of Rousse in Bulgaria. His parents were also opera singers. He made his professional début singing the King in Aida on a tour of Germany with the Rousse Opera House when he was only 19. Then came appearances in Wiesbaden, Madrid, Düsseldorf and Sofia. In the short space of one and a half years, he performed such roles as King Philip (Don Carlo), Zaccaria (Nabucco), Ramfis (Aida) and Alvise (La Gioconda). Since winning Plácido Domingo’s Operalia Competition in 1999, Orlin Anastassov has been heard at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (under Sir Colin Davis), La Scala Milan (under Riccardo Chailly), the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Vienna, Hamburg and Bavarian State Operas as well as in Paris, Frankfurt, Verona, Rome, Amsterdam and in a gala concert together with Plácido Domingo in Washington.
