Farhan Akhtar

Farhan Akhtar is an emerging contemporary Indian film director. He is the son of very well known scripwriter, poet and lyricist, Javed Akhtar and renowned screenplay writer, Honey Irani. He is also the grandson of Urdu poet, Jan Nisar Akhtar.

He made his directorial debut into Hindi cinema with the 2001 blockbuster hit, Dil Chahta Hai which starred Aamir Khan. He then moved onto his next project, Lakshya (film) with Hrithik Roshan which released in 2004. Though the movie did not do as well at the the box office, the movie won him a lot of critical acclaim.

He is currently working on a remake of the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don. This Don will star Shahrukh Khan in the title role. The film is due for release in October 2006. His sister, Zoya Akhtar, is also turning director with a film that is currently under production.
