Родился в Ленинграде. Окончил Ленинградский театральный институт им. А. Н. Островского (1961) С 1961 — актер Ленинградского АБДТ им. М. Горького (с 1992 — им. Г. А. Товстоногова). В кино с 1960 года, около ста ролей.
Заслуженный артист РСФСР (1987). Народный артист России.
