В 1941-42 годах работал учеником обмотчика электромоторов Московских электромеханических мастерских, затем – учеником токаря на Заводе по ремонту автомашин. В 1942-47 годах – токарь по металлу Завода №5. В 1952 году окончил ВГИК и до 1986 года работал в Театре-студии киноактёра. Ведущий исполнитель эпизодических ролей в фильмах 60-70-х годов. Большинство героев Виктора Маркина - люди интеллигентные, "служащие".
